About City Coops.net

In the 1928 Presidential Campaign, Herbert Hoover claimed that everyone would be prosperous under his Presidency and there would be "A chicken in every pot and a car in every garage."

In 2009, in another bad economy, Greg Haney claims there will soon be "A coop in every backyard, and an endless supply of eggs in every nesting box."

About CityCoops.Net

Greg Haney, Founder & CEO, CityCoops.netHi! I’m Greg Haney, founder of CityCoops.net. I live in Alpharetta, GA just north of Atlanta. In March of 2008 I became interested in raising a few backyard hens and then began my quest for knowledge on the subject. I first built a coop for my parents and they kept me posted on their experiences and the fun they were having with their backyard flock.  Their excitement and experiences encouraged me to want a few chickens of my own.

Before building my coop, I spent countless hours reading books and internet articles about raising chickens and building a backyard coop. As it relates to coop building, I found a lot of plans, some for free and some not. I couldn’t seem to find anything that incorporated all the features and benefits I wanted, so I decided to design my own backyard chicken coop.

After a few friends saw the coops I built, they suggested I draw up the plans and sell them on-line.  I finally posted my wares on CraigsList and was pleasantly surprised when I received my first order after only 4 hours. It was then that CityCoops.net was born. In addition to my original 3'x4' coop plan, I designed a 10'x12' coop and barn plan that could handle 15+ hens and a few small milk goats.

Initially my objectives were only to build a coop that could comfortably house 3-4 large breed chickens and that would be easy to maintain. But after much careful consideration, I decided the coop had to incorporate all of these features:

  • Attractive – no eye sores in my backyard
  • Affordable – less than $250 for building supplies and feeder
  • Safety – predator proof by totally enclosing the coop with wood and welded wire
  • Ventilation – welded wire base and vented roof
  • Compact – efficient use of space
  • Mobility – easily transportable
  • Maintenance-Free – no cleaning required
  • Easy assembly – require only basic carpentry skills and tools
  • Expandability –- add-on chicken run to accomodate more chickens

Finished construction of a 3x4 CityCoop planI hope you find my plans as useful as me and my friends and family have. If you decide to purchase one of our coop plans, please send us your story and photos when you've finished the construction. We'll post them on this website.

Thanks for visiting CityCoops.net and good luck with your flock!
