Chicken Coop Plans

3x4 Mobile Coop Plan

The 3x4 moveable coop can house 3–4 large breed chickens that would provide maximum enjoyment with minimal labor exerted to maintain it.

FEATURES

Moveable Coop w/Handles & Wheels

  • Reposition the coop anywhere in the yard
  • Operates like wheel barrow
  • Prevents destruction of soil and distributes waste

Nesting Box Access Door

  • Easier to collect the eggs every afternoon.
  • Accessible from the front of the coop

Feed Access Door

  • Accessible from the front of the coop

Yard Access Door - 8” X 10”

  • Allows the chickens out into a enclosed yard or into a chicken run that would give them more livable space

Two Nesting Boxes

  • Most experts recommend one nesting box for every 4 – 5 hens. Even if you have up to 6 hens they may all use the same nesting box

Roosting Poles

  • Each chicken only requires 1 linear foot of space to roost at night.
  • Chickens prefer to roost on a pole at night while they sleep.
  • Roosts are mounted 2 feet above the ground to provide safety and shelter from the weather.

Self Feeders - Hanging

  • Mounted under nesting boxes in an effort to reduce the possibility of the chickens contaminating their food and water supply with their droppings
  • Feeders hang from a chain so that the feeder height can be adjusted as the chicks grow

Plexiglas Window – “The Chicken Channel”

  • A must have on any coop. My wife and I really enjoy the window on our coop. We sometimes just sit and talk and watch the chickens settle in for the night on the roosting poles. We call it “watching the chicken channel”

Roof

  • Sliding
  • Removable - access to the interior for future cleaning or necessary repair
  • Vented

Easily Moved

  • Handles allow for the coop to be more easily moved throughout the yard or garden
  • Moving the coop often will allow the hens to eat and fertilize a new 12 sq ft area as well as keep any odor to a minimum
  • Wheels can be installed at one end of the coop to allow for one person to more easily move the coop around the yard

This design can comfortably house 3 – 4 chickens; however it could comfortably sleep up to 12 chickens. If you decide to have more than 4 chickens in this design you would need to either:

  • Add a chicken run that would be accessible from the yard access door
(If you choose to build a run, just remember you need at least 2 square feet per chicken) or…
  • Allow them to be free range in an enclosed yard.
